What Is The Women's Council

The Women's Council of the Building Industry Association of Fresno/Madera Counties was chartered in May 1980. Beginning with only seven members, the Council was determined to make a difference in the community, and has since grown to over 80 members and raised over $250,000 for different charities.

The Council began their philanthropic efforts by raising money to benefit Fresno State University and
Fresno City College construction programs, scholarships and grants. In 1991, the Women's Council raised enough money to establish an endowment at Fresno City College to provide funding for construction education programs in perpetuity. The Council also gave tools to senior students embarking on their professions in the homebuilding and commercial construction industry.

Through the years the Council has also expanded the efforts to donate time, money, hard work and lots of love to help outreach community programs. The programs include: our own Women's Council scholarship, Kids N Cancer, Boys and Girls Club, Hope Battalion Scholarship, Friends of the Library, DARE, Coats for Kids, Skywatch, Stars Behind Bars, Art Kirkland Memorial, Neighborhood Watch, Safety for Kids, Marjoree Mason Center and Make A Wish. One of the Council's greatest achievements was their donation of 2000 trees in the year 2000 to the City of Fresno through the "Homebuilders Care" program and Homes of Our Own."

Fundraising for the many projects sponsored by the Women's Council is not an easy task. In fact, there aren't too many events the Women's Council hasn't coordinated to fund their programs and fulfill their need to build longstanding relationships among friends and colleagues in the building industry. Whether it is dinner and dance parties, fashion shows, salvage sales, raffles, building playhouses, bus trips or selling entertainment books the members of the Women's Council have worked hard and made a difference. We look forward to your participation in the Women's Council and hearing your new ideas for building better communities in our own backyard. If you have any questions or need additional information please contact the BIA office directly at 559/261-9344.
