Clean Air Community

The Building Industry Association (BIA) recognizes air quality will continue to be an important issue as regional growth takes place. hHmebuilders in the San Joaquin Valley want to make a difference in the region and are committed to doing their part to clean up the air.

Many Central Valley homebuilders are now offering new residential communities that meet specified criteria to be classified as a Clean Air Community. The concept of a Clean Air Community begins in the planning process of every new community for the homebuilder. BIA members offer new residential communities that are classified as a Clean Air Community when the following criteria are provided:

* Install only EPA approved wood burning fireplaces or gas burning fireplaces to reduce particulate matter emissions.
* Provide a 110-volt recharge connection in garage for zero-emission vehicles.
* Provide exterior electrical outlets on front and rear of house to encourage use of electric yard equipment such as mowers.
* Provide exterior stub natural gas outlets to patios to encourage use of clean burning natural gas barbeques.
* Install centralized delivery mailboxes to reduce postal vehicle stop and go emissions.

The homebuilding industry has made a commitment to improving the future of the San Joaquin
Valley and providing an enhanced quality of life for future generations. Through the Clean Air Community Program, homebuilders offer homebuyers the assurance that the latest in construction technology has been applied to provide improved air quality standards for their development.
